Sydney Harbour – Safety Announcement
In early February 2007 the NSW Food Authority has advised that recent tests reveal elevated levels of dioxins in fish and crustaceans across Sydney Harbour, Parramatta River and associated estuaries. A ban has been placed on commercial fishing in these areas.
Although recreational fishing has not been banned in the above areas fishers are urged to follow the diet advice on the consumption of seafood from these areas.
The Food Authority is now advising that you should not eat seafood west of the Harbour Bridge. Your catch should be released if caught from this area.
For seafood caught east of the Harbour Bridge you should not eat more than 150gms of fish per month.
