Fishing & Boating News

Propeller Talk - That time has come again and I again have the duty of producing the propeller talk for our magazine. Again your committee has been busy with the general running of the club and with a few new ideas (some nearly coming off) such as the Garry Brown Harbour expo which was postponed till another day due to bad weather. Tom has been busy with the indoor program and the quality of talks continues to impress. Good to see few boats turn up for our safety field day at the improved wharf rd ramp, again we always seem to learn something new all the time. With new lifejacket regulations coming into force in November, it was interesting to get the heads up from the maritime officer, gives us all time to get used to the wearing or purchasing of lifejackets. . ...... read the whole Propeller talk

What is the Sea Bees Boating Club all about?

The Sea Bees is a non-profit social/fishing club whose members mainly fish from boats, hence the name "Boating Club". It is highly desirable you have your own boat but there are opportunities to fish as a crew member with others especially if you want to try out different boats prior to purchasing your own.

History - The Club began in 1974 and currently has about 130 members which included men, ladies and children. On becoming a member all the family automatically become members of the Club including grandchildren! Family members frequently attend outings especially weekends away outside Sydney which include Lakes and Dams.

Club Meetings  - Are mainly attended by the men however we love to see the ladies and children attending these meetings as they are very informative and educational. Throughout the year social night are programmed to attract all members. The Club meets twice a month at the Roselea Community Centre, Carlingford, on the second and fourth Fridays of the month. Doors open at around 7:40pm and the meeting start at 8:00pm. The first part of the meeting normally consists of current news, fishing reports, proposed outings and general news and discussion.
The second part of the meeting normally consists of either a guest speaker or a panel night. On occasions this format is reversed for a guest speaker and often a free sausage sizzle is provided from about 7pm. Details about this night are provided on the Indoor program on this web site (www.seabeesboating.com.au) or in the club magazine “Propeller” which is available at the Clubroom or from some fishing stores and other retail outlets.

Outings: - Throughout the year the Club fishes locations such as Sydney Harbour, The Hawkesbury River, Cowan, Berowra, and Botany Bay. Weekends away are organised to Wollongong, Nowra, Port Stephens and Swansea. Approximately every two years the Club hold a Field Day where boats/trailers are inspected and checked for compliance and safety equipment.

The Club members also fish at freshwater locations such Glenbawn Dam and Wyangala Dam and Windermere, Lostock and St Clair. These outings are well attended as there is an opportunity to camp, caravan or cabin over a couple of days. Members frequently form small groups to visit Queensland to fish the Great Barrier Reef fishing or chase the elusive Barramundi.

We also hold Ladies and Children’s day, Christmas/Santa day, and crabbing weekends are also programmed each year. The Club now holds an ANSA Convention at Lake Lyell (Lithgow) each year and as a result of this Convention has been able to donate funds to charity in recent years.

Competitions - For those who are competitive, yearly competitions are held. Trophies are presented to the winners at the annual presentation day. The main categories are freshwater, estuary, deep sea, children's, ladies, tagging, ANSA, open and champion of champions. These competitions are mainly fun social events with the intention of everybody getting on the water and enjoying the company of other members and promoting recreational fishing especially with our children and grandchildren.

The Sea Bees is affiliated with Australian National Sportfishing Association and approximately 50 Club members are affiliated with ANSA so they can fish the conventions throughout the year.
